In the 18th century, the site on Zelazna Street was owned by Franciszek Ryks, one of the most colorful figures of the Stanislawski bob, only to fall into the hands of the Buch Brothers company after another change of ownership. The Buch Brothers plated goods factory was established, which continued the work of the Gustav Henniger plant in Warsaw, which had been bought out by the Buch brothers - one of the largest plating factories. In 1882, the Buch Brothers plating factory was bought out by Ludwik Norblin, along with his partner Teodor Werner and his wife Albertine (Ludwik's sister), gradually moving their factories from other parts of Warsaw to Zelazna Street.
factory complex then produced not only platinum, but brass and silver plate, various types of wire and tubing, as well as products and semi-finished products for the armaments industry. Ludwik, Teodor and Albertine were co-founders of the new company of the Joint-Stock Society of Metal Factories “Norblin, Buch Brothers and T.Werner,” which from 1893 developed its activities to become one of the six largest enterprises in the metal industry in the Kingdom of Poland.
The factory is booming
Before World War II, the company employed more than a thousand workers. However, the wartime conflagration did not spare the factory - in 1944 it was almost completely destroyed during hostilities, and most of the machinery and materials were taken away by the occupiers. When some of them were recovered after the end of hostilities, and the factory resumed its activities, the decision was made to nationalize it and rename it the “Warsaw” Metal Rolling Mill. The factory operated in this location until the end of 1981, when it was finally moved to Palisadowa Street in Warsaw.
World War II
In 2017, the revitalization of the post-factory area began. From a space that had been neglected for several decades, a pearl of post-industrial architecture has been created - the multifunctional building complex Norblin Factory, which fits perfectly into the pace of Warsaw's fast-growing Wola district by combining a place to work with a place for pleasant leisure activities..
